Any brand preferences? M&H? Goodyear? Hoosier? Other brand?

i use goodyears 31x14x15 d-5 compound. i only have 57 passes on them since 1995 and they still look like new. no cracks , probably a little dried out. best part is that in 1995 i was getting 60 times between 1.47 and 1.52, depending on the track and last november i had the car ou for the first time in over 3 years and the car hooked with a 1.52 at the track where i usually dont get good traction, so those tires could be consired as old reliable. i plan on getting new ones this year as i will be coming out alot harder and have a new motor that will put me in the low 10s in my 67 Nova. tires dont owe me nothing, so i will retire them and put them out to pasture. come and get em. aloit of my friends are super stock racers and they all have gravitated towards the Hoosiers. they say they last longer, and they also seem to be able so use a slightly smaller width tire. im sticking with my goodyear brand art

I run Hoosiers. I get more runs on a set than I do on M/T and have my best 60' on them.

hey fasterthansome all the guys i talkto say the same thing about their hoosiers. i am even tempted to jump ship and get the hoosiers. all these racers cant be wrong. sounds like a real good tire. also heard that goodyear started having alot of problems with their tires in the past few years. think they started making them in south america and the Nascar guys were really complaining about some serious problems with the quality of the tires. nothing is made here anymore. things get scarier every year with all the foriegh junk sent here art

I run Hoosier 32x13.5W (which is basically a 14x32). I get the most runs out of Hoosiers and consistent short times. The car goes 1.29 60" with a soft 3600rpm launch.

LOL

That pic is actually about 15 years old. Had a borrowed 468BBC at the time (used it for license passes). Smashed the oil pan on the pass. OOPS! :bang:

Took the 750 double pumper off, put a 1050 Dominator on and the giant wheelies went away. :th:

eddie always curious about carb changes. what was the ET change (up or down ) with the carb change. also how was the 60 time changed.i would suspect it got better , but then i think of the superstock guys that do the monster wheelies and still have great 60 foot times. i wonder if their times would be better without the wheelies, and if so why dont they get rid of the wheelies. those big wheelies just scare me to death art

I honestly don't recall how the carb changed the 60ft because it was so long ago. However, I did take the 1050 off of our old 433ciBBC and swapped on a 750 to see how the car reacted to the smaller carb. The car slowed down about 4/10 in overall ET. 990 casting iron heads, .720/.720 280/300 solid roller, single plane intake, 12:1 compression. With the 1050, the car went a best of 9.87 at 135mph with the .060" over 427. This engine was spun to 8200rpm.

I wouldn't dare take the 1150 off for a smaller carb on my current 565.

ed that 427 really was spinning at that rpm. i am a small block guy, but my favorite big block always was the 427 (fdavored over 396 and 454) that motor also always holds some kind of nhra stock class record. lots of power to be had by those babies when in the right hands art

427s are definately fun! At one time we had a iron-headed 427 with flat top pistons, a .680/.680 solid roller, 8-71 blower injected on alky in the car that went 8.60s.

Took the blower off and popped on a single plane intake and a Holley 750 and the car went 10.20s at 129mph on gas. With a Powerglide, 8" converter, 4.88s and 31x13" Hoosiers the car went 1.36 60ft with the front tires 3 feet in the air leaving at 5200rpm on the 2 step. :th:
