Tony,
I`d rather use the real
tool for
right job...
it might be cheapier and
easier on
your nerves to use
metric tools on metric
fasterners
and SAE tools on SAE fasterners..

Think
about it....
one bolt is dead tight and you

round off the head with the
"ecomical"
wrench.....
now, you have to heat, drill,
easyout the
bolt....

For occasional wrenchers use
tools made
by Crasfman,Unitool,
wresward,Canadian
tire.....

Most of the time they will work
very well and
you`ll save money
compared to Snap-on
tools

Denis

One size rounds all! Saves time and money over having to find the wrong size wrench to ruin all your bolt heads. Now you can do it with half as many tools.

If I where you I would start with Monza engine frame brackets and buy some
Monza Motor Mounts from Bob Gum. Make your own trans mount and use the 1 1/2
inch diameter Hooker Monza Headers. Install an S-10 rear with the brackets
from your stock rear end. Have someone build a three core radiator and use a
Milodon oil pan. Use a short style water pump and pulleys and mount the
alternator on the passenger side off of the headers. Don't cut up the body very
much to install a shifter, the body is the only thing that has structural
integrity so don't weaken it too much. The best way to go is with a traditional
Borg Warner style or Muncie style 4 speed and standard aluminum bellhousing
with a cable operated flat diaphgram clutch and short (round face) throwout
bearing. Use a small diameter 10.4 inch lightweight flywheel and small starter
motor.
Good Luck
Sincerely
Dennis Moore

Subject: [HBOA TECH CLUB] new owner of a '74 vega

hello all,
like the subject line says i am the new owner of a 1974 Chevy Vega GT 2 dr
hatchback. this thing has been sitting in a dirt field for over 10 years
(last time it was registered was in '89) so it is currently in terrible
condition. the windshield is scattered all over the drivers and passengers
seat, the dash is in the back, steering wheel is gone, there are no keys to
be found, the original engine is sitting about 5 feet away from the car (and
i must say that that is the funkiest engine configuration I've ever seen),
the hood mounts are missing or broken so the hood is sitting next to the car,
the interior is shredded (brittle plastic; shreaded, faded carpet; ripped
seats; cracked dash pad), and the condition of the suspension is unknown. i
plan to restore and hot rod/street rod her. i have a 305 to build up and drop
in to her. i plan to mate that to a 4 or 5 speed (5 speed preferred) (and BTW
i like to rase as well so i need a tranny that can take a lickin' and keep on
tickin').
so as you can see i have a lot of work to do. this is my first
rebuild and i have absolutely no idea where to start so if any one can give
me help or suggestions or info or whatever i would love it. also what are
some good sources for parts. and does any one have info on the history of the
vega. i am looking for as much info as possible, i want to know absolutely
everything i can so flood my inbox please. i need to know what I've gotten my
self into.

Thank you and sorry for the long winded email.

If I remeber correctly, this is a variant of the Chevy
Monza. If so checkout the www.cosworthvega.com. You
can also lokk up the Yahoo cosworth vega site as well.
It has a search engine to do a lot of research on all
the items that you mention. At the CV web site, you
can acquire the Cosworth Chronicles which list
completee parts numbers and specs for setting up a
killer track tested suspension for your 4 cylinder.
They also discuss installation of the iron duke in
some of the Cv web site links. CV engines pop up
regularly on ebay as well as salvagable cars that
could donate suspension, springs, transmissio and
engine. There was a competition head for a reguler
vega engine last week. Also some of tyhe guys on the
yahoo Cv site have regular vega parts as well. Keep
looking and write if you need more specific info. Jim
