Sounds like you have a nice collection of cars. You may want to check the VIN on the Starfire though, they began as a 1975 model

you are right my friend, at the time of post i had not got the car home yet and thats how the previous owner had it advertized. believe it or not he had advertized it as a 74 pontiac starfire GT and i drove for a couple hours too look at it and was crushed when i got there and it was a olds. i ask the guy before i left was he sure it was a pontiac and he said he was sure, so to say the least i was dissapointed but the car was so good and he said the 56000 mile was origonal , i went ahead and bought it anyway. thanks for your in put and have a great day. terry

I'm a little late, but I figured I would post my all Pontiac build. Pontiac's are a little longer and a little taller. It took some time to figure out how to get it in the engine bay, but now that it is in it fits well. I moved the firewall back about 3 inches and I have about 3 inches between the water pump and radiator. This is my Welfare motor till I can get my 468 in the corner built.

This next one only gives a glimpse at the "rotiserie" used to flip the car. Please tell us more about it, you should start a thread in the Project Journal area telling us more about the beast you are creating. :th:

yeah i will post in the project journal. I have lots o pix I can post. I have being keeping a photo journal on the whole process. If anyone has any questions about a pontiac motor in an H body i will offer up what i can. The "rotisserie" was scrape parts, as I was tired of burning myself welding upside down.

LOVE the exhaust splitter tail pipes!!!! I'd planned on putting some on my '72 that was powered by a Buick 215 V8. Of course, I'd have had to move the gas tank over a bit to fit the passenger side..... but I really wanted to do it. Can't wait to see it upright!

You've done some incredible fabrication and that Sunbird will be a cool ride when you get it finished.

Tell us about those front motor mounts. They look like they bolt to the heads.
Any info on the exhaust - do stock exhaust manifolds fit in there?

The motor mounts do bolt to the heads and I used lower control arm bushings for the frame mounts. The factory motor mounts wouldn't work with my rack and pinion steering and linkage. The factory manifolds fit perfect with no clearance issues. I will post some pix soon when i get a chance to take some. I also use early catalina down tubes to connect the rest of the exhaust, all purchased from Pypes Exhaust. I Have enough room to build a set of custom headers but that is a future project of mine. The aluminum E heads i want have the ram air style round ports and the common cast iron heads all have d style ports.

Have you looked into the Kaufman or new Edlebrock D port heads? I have heard that the new E heads outflow the earlier style with the round port exaust and give better header availability (though that is a mute point on an H-body)

I havent seen the new D style E heads. I have read a lot of arguments on whos heads are better. Factory heads are good and can be made to make a lot of ponies. For me its mostly the wanting to put the motor on a diet. It would be nice to find a set of headers that were "close" to working with a bit of massage work. I dont really like to cut up new parts, but its been known to happen. :th:

Very cool to see an H-body taken that far. Of course - it's not an H-body any more.
