can anyone tell me if the flairs on my 77 mirage
can be molded to the body to get rid of that ugly
piece that holds them on? If so, please tell me what I
need to do so. No body shop will even talk to me about
it unless I plain to let them do the work!! Sorry
body shop, no dice.Thank you for any help you can give
me.

I can't think of any way to do what you're
suggesting. You've got the rigid steel body and semi-rigid
body filler blending into the flexible urethane Mirage
panels. Seems like it would be bound to crack sooner or
later.

I have a set of the fender panels and am in the
process of making bucks to mount them on so I can make
fiberglass molds of them. If you have any interest in a set,
let me know.

Neil

Well i hapen to be a guy who owns a small body
shop and hopefully can answer youre question
;>)
The problem with the difference between the urethane
side panels and the steel body parts they mount
against is the different rates they expand and contract
due to temperature changes..this is why they are
affixed as they are so they both are able to move at
differnt rates etc...if you try to affix them chances are
they are going to crack and you will just have a
mess..

YES,

Several years ago, I had the flairs
molded into the body. It was not easy, but the finished
look was far superior.

The first step was to
take and drill holes at each of the "pad" locations
that are on the back of the flairs. It actually looks
like this was their intended purpose. With the holes
drilled, the panel was mounted to the car and then the
holes were drilled into the body. Then the panel was
prepped with fiberglass resin and then rivited to the
body. Fiberglass was then used to mold the panels
smooth. All rivet holes were covered, even inside the
wheelwells and on the hatch spoiler. The final effect was
outstanding, making the entire body look like it was built
that way by the general.

Regards,
Bill
