Hey Shaun,
I just built a long rod(5.7) 407
for my sunbird using the stock V-8 oil pan and it
clears just fine. I have heard it won't, but without the
rods it has about 3/8" clearance on the counterweights
and with the rods it clears by about 1/4" on the rod
bolts. I have also heard that the early 400 cranks have
larger counterweights than the later,my machinist asked
when I brought mine in who had been grinding on it and
I told him nobody it came out of a '77 motor that
had never been in to. Counterweights looked to be 3/8
to 7/16 smaller than a 70 model he had in the shop.
Early 400s had nearly round counterweights and mine had
somewhat contoured weights that were almost flat in three
places around the counterweights. Anyway thats all I
know to tell you, if you have any questions Email me
@cst70rocket@yahoo.
