Mirage Panel Info

Just joined up to the list, and have a question:
How do the stock Mirage body flares attach on the top
side? I bought a set and am thinking about putting them
on my 1980 Starfire GT as something different, but
there seems to be something missing. Are there metal
strips they lock into or something, and if so, are they
available somewhere?

This project (including an Olds
350 and 5-speed) is going to be awhile, just looking
for information right now.

Take Care,
Ken

Hi Ken... welcome. The Mirage panels attach using
a plastic V-channel strip. Look closely at the
panels in a good pic of a Mirage and you'll see a thin
line/strip along the top of the panels. Currently, nobody
remakes them, and they're more impossible to find than
the Mirage panels themselves! On the up-side,
however, a club member in New York is attempting to get
sets of them made if he can get enough orders for
them. I currently have 3 front strips, and 1 rear, but
they are already promised to the buyer of a set of
Mirage panels I just sold. (However, I have 2 more
complete sets if you're interested - *shameless*) Anyway,
the only other alternatives you have are 1. Find
something similar at a hardware store to use (I've seen
something close at Lowe's) 2. Bond them to the fenders
without the attaching strip. The "original" Mirage didn't
have those strips... And if you're wanting more info
on those panels, or would like to see how they're
attached, check out <a href=http://www.monzamirage.com target=new>http://www.monzamirage.com</a> or
<a href=http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/monzamiragemania target=new>http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/monzamiragemania</a>

Hope this helps...

Ken

...btw, I assume this is the Ken Synder who races
Solo II..... you ever fix your car from the little
puke that hit ya? Sorry to hear about that... hope
everything turned out ok in the end.

Also, are you
familiar with the "other" road-racing Ken (Merseau)?...
(too many Ken's.. *smile*) He's another fellow H-Body
enthusiest who races a '78 Spyder in ATA class.

If
you have the time, I'd be interested in chatting w/
you sometime about the suspesion setup on your car.
I'm actually thinking of doing a little part-time
SCCA racing w/ my '78 Spyder myself.... my email
address is mahoy78spyder@yahoo.com .

Take
care...

Ken (popular name...)
