I'm a new member and i don't have an
hbody...yet.
I'm looking for an unmolested vega to start a
project. tpi, 5spd, posi, 5lug are all part of the plan. I
would like to use a third generation camaro engine and
trans but my question is:
Has anyone ever used the
long waterpump on a v8 hbody with the radiator in the
stock location? i'd probably be using serpentine belts
and elecric fan as stock on the f-body. thanks for
any advice

Well If I was you I would try to install it as is
then if clearance is close use a pusher fan infront of
the radiator. And if you want A/C give Vintage Air a
call they have a super neat setup thats VERY compact
in fact one of the guys I met on the hot rod power
tour works there and he has I thnk a monza. And as for
the 5 lug axles go looking for an s 10 2wd w/4.3 some
of them had 8.5 in axles and fit a monza perfect.
Look for the tubes with a big neck down after coming
out of center section and remember the 8.5 gears hold
up in turbo regals unless you make 5oo hp it will
hold up. you can reach me at Xanadu4024@aol.com when
you get started as I am almost done with my kit(to be
sold for hbodies )to use S/10 front spindles and sold
w/ either remachined or new rotors ,reman calipers,
appropriate hoses, proportioning valve ball joints, and either
Raybestos Brute Stop pads or Performance Friction pads and
the only change so far I have had was a little
clearance work and light welding (to install adapter into
lower control arm.)And I will have a tubular control
arm(s) out probably sometime in late spring 2001. And
the s/10 master cyl is going to be used (and so far
the proportioning valve is the hitch ,,,but I am
setting up to build new ones for hbodies 76 and up,IE it
works better. But you can still add an adj. valve if
you so choose.

PS Good Luck!!!

Alex,
There was one for sale in the Rocky
Mountain News in Denver today(11/21/00). I will see if I
can get a phone number if you want??? I think it was
a 77, very clean, and the guy wanted $1500.00 for
it. I think it was a GT.

Hey Alex, I have a 76 Astre with a 350, 5 spd.
and I am running the long water pump setup. I had to
move the radiator in front of the support right behind
the grill's. Even with electric fans i still didn't
have enough room to put the radiator in the factory
location. I got lucky with the power steering pump. With it
bolted in it's stock location, the belt lined up
perfect...

PS..I am using all factory Monza V8 parts in my
Astre..
I hope this helps
...Kevin...
