hi all! i just found this club an i kinda
figgured some people here might have an answer to my
question...... i have a book that i use for reference that says
that in 1977 pontiac offered a 400 cid engine for the
sunbird is this true ? i had never heard of this before
....it must be a rare option or maybe my book is
wrong....also if anybody knows was it a chevy 400 or a pontiac
400 i would guess it would be a chevy in
77

thanx in advance to all answers
aj

I don't think any sunbirds had 400 in them. I got my first monza in 79 and it came with a 305. I now have a 400 chey sm. block in this car now. I also am sure that the 6.6 was a olds 403.

Ok folks here goes ,,, The 400 pontiac is 6.6 and
was in T A's never in h bodies(largest V-8 in H
bodies was 350) and as for a 403 being 6.6 yes it was
.
In 1975 GM comissioned a report on which engine
would take less money to keep emissions legal and the
Olds won(not by much) and so the 400/455 was slated
for demise after 1976 but the popularity/sheer
quantity of stock (and lack of Olds stock) kept it in
production cars till 78 for about 80 % of production then
controlers started installing 403's BUT Pontiac kept finding
400's so they kept installing them as they found them
till end of 79, then only pontiac V-8s after 79 was
some 350's(left overs) and 301(oh the shame of
admitting a 301 is PontiacACK)
and sorry but if ya want
to put a pontiack in a monza better beef up the
unibody cause it aint gonna take the torque(I'm sure
pontiac thought about iy but its SSSOOOoo tight for
manifolds and the suspension willt hold a BBC but not tin
indian.
Later
