Vega- s-10 rear end swap

The fact that your Vega (all 1976-up) has a
Torque Arm makes use of the S-10 Housing difficult. You
would have to install a specially fabricated & welded
Torque Arm Bracket.

A better choice would be
installing a 1982-1987 Camaro Posi and Gears in a 1975
Pontiac Astre Station Wagon Housing.

The 1975
Astre Wagon had the only 7.5" differential with the
Vega style 4-link brackets.

If this cannot be
located, take any 1975-up Monza, Skyhawk, Sunbird or
Starfire 7.5" housing and weld on the Vega
Brackets.

Its easy to do...Robert

Vega- s-10 rear end swap

My 77 Astre (from everything I have read and
found) has the 7.5" rear, with the torque arm. I was
planning on the 5 lug upgrade with an S10 rear. I have a
rear from an 86 Camaro, but as you know, and I found
out, it just wouldn't work that well. Icouldn't pass
it up though, it was given to me. I guess I would
just to have someone verify that changing to the S10
rear is what will be the best thing to do for my
application. I want the ease of off the shelf parts, and wide
selection of rims for the S10, but is there anything that I
can still use my factory rear (say with different
axles for 5 lug that will fit?) I am sure these things
have been gone through a hundred times (if not more),
but I just really appreciate others opinions on the
subject. I am planning on buyibg the ball-joint adapters
for the front form Robert at v8monza.com, and
building the front before i begin on the rear.
Thanks.............

77 Astre GT
RTS
383 and T350 going in in the
spring

Vega- s-10 rear end swap

If you have the 7.5" axle in your 1977 Astre,
then the 2 wheel drive S-10 Axles are a bolt-in swap.
The brakes are the same too, so just slide the S-10
drums on and you are set.

The Camaro/S-10
Pinion Gear is different than a Monza/Vega/Astre pinion,
so you either install it with a special bearing or
have the S-10 pinion machined down to accept the
smaller 'H-Body' pinion bearing.

The front end
swap is a simple bolt in with the Ball Joint Adapters
from V8Monza.Com and I recommend it over modified
control arms.

Let me know if you need more
information...Robert

Vega- s-10 rear end swap

Just got my rear end apart. Had a 7.5" with the
with 2.93:1 gearing. Also the 26 spline axles. I don't
think I could have found out better news today. I hated
to think about fabricating any more than I need to.
Have a set of IROC rims on the way, too. Everything
all at once. Is everyone's project this hectic? I
can't complain about it though, I guess. Looking
forward to letting y'all know how it progresses.

Yes. My project has been very difficult too. Seems like I have made more parts than I have repaired. Best of luck...Robert
