Brian:

General Motors Heritage Center wants $50 per invoice.

But according to them, see what they said bellow:

"pulling invoices at $50 each would be very expensive to go through thousands of invoices to find the last Vega"

ANOTHER UP DATE FROM General Motors Heritage Center

Here's the email I just received from them:

They also built some Monzas and their VINs would be included in the sequential number sequence, but an "M" would in the second digit instead of a "V". I don't think you can say that you have the last Vega built.

***He's saying "I don't think you can say that you have the last Vega built"

"I don't think"...Is what he says!!!

***BUT HE'S ALSO NOT SAYING THAT MY VEGA CAN BE THE LAST VEGA BUILT

IN OTHER WORDS,General Motors Heritage Center DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE LAST VEGA BUILT!!! :bang:

since yours is a wagon, and the wagons weren't done in 77 i believe your pissing into the wind even the hatches weren't done in 77 the monza S was a vega hatch with a monza grill so the only vegas the were last in 77 were the trunk models here you go a write up stating the wagons were around 2 more years after the vegas http://www.carlustblog.com/2010/12/car- ... nza-s.html

I have a 1977 VEGA state wagon, why are you saying my car ia a monza, MY VIN# AND TITLE SAYS IT'S A 1977 Vega?

Yes they made a monza wagon in 1978,that has nothing to do with what we are talking about the 1977 Vegas

UPDATE WITH ANOTHER REPLY TODAY FROM General Motors Heritage Center :

I can't definitively prove that it is the last Vega built by the VIN number.

In other words, with my vin #,General Motors Heritage Center can not verify that my VEGA is the last one made :censored:

At least no one else is stepping forward with an even later VIN...so as it stands now, at least technically, you have the newest Vega in existence.
1978 Monza Spyder V8 4speed, posi
1978 Sunbird Formula V6, 5 Speed, Hatchback
1980 Sunbird Hatchback 4cyl, 4spd.
2006 Chevrolet Aveo 5 speed Hatchback

Hard to get an answer but hopefully GM Heritage will mail back. I'll just paste my email instead of typing it all over again. Hope it makes sense.

Brian,
I checked with records and yes, the VINS are in sequential order and models could be mixed. They plug the last eight (8) numbers into the search function. That would include the year, the plant and the sequential number.

Year, Plant and then the last six digits for the sequential number. So if a Vega and a Monza were made at the same plant the last eight numbers could be identical??? But they should be the only models together since the sequential number starts with “1”! Other models are going to start with different numbers.

No, they would not be identical. I pulled a higher number (7U183121) at random and it came out a Sport Van, which was also built at Lordstown. The search function won't let us separate by model only by the last eight. There is no way that I can look for the last Vega without having records go through thousands of records.

Jim,

OK, I'm just trying to work through this and I certainly appreciate your help! The reason I thought there would be identical numbers (last 8 digits of VIN) is because of the total number of Monza's made for 77. I forgot the majority were made in Canada. Only 6,230 Monza's were made at Lordstown and they were all Town Coupe cars. So that would give us a total of 84,632 H bodies made at Lordstown in 1977. This total goes past the Sport Van sequential number you looked up?

That is really a surprise to me that different models would have the same sequential range. I know all the models didn't. This is off the net so take it for what its worth - This way if the plant is building 3 different vehicles, each vehicle line will be in a unique sequential range - Camaros at 100001, Novas at 300001, Impalas at 700001, etc...

The Buick micro film was labeled for 1979 by the last eight digits of the VIN. The Skyhawk started with 4 for the sequential part of the VIN and you can see from the previous picture that these are 1979 models and then the Lordstown plant code 7 (in 79 it was 7). So that is what I'm trying to understand.

i wasn't saying your car was a monza i said they kept making the vega wagon after 77 its just that in 78 and 79 they were called monza's but the were still vega wagons same with the 1978 monza S it was a vega hatch back not a monza but it was called a monza S in 78 although your vega was made in late july of that year and was labeled a vega if it was made a few weeks later it would have been called a monza but it would have been the same car. you know if you go next to edit and click the x on those double postings you can delete the extra ones, wasn't trying to piss you off but the info i posted was true info.Timmy
