Mazda rotary engine swap

Postby duckblaster67 » Sun Jul 15, 2012 11:41 pm

Has this been done before? Since the '75 Monzas were originally set up for a rotary engine, I thought it'd be a cool swap! My brother has an 80s RX-7 that got rolled, but the engine was good, and the thought of building a Monza like they intended in '75 sounded like a neat idea! Don't think it's something I'd tackle anytime soon since I'm currently doing my son's Mirage, but maybe someone else might like the idea for something different??? :th:

Go for it. Dare 2B Different.
Modify it to make it look like a GM Wankel engine.
Here's a website with images of the May 1972 Popular Science article titled "GM Rotary for the '74 Vega" - http://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion- ... ga-208266/

Also, look here for anotherpic of the GM Wankel: http://chevyvega.wikia.com/wiki/Chevrolet_Monza

I've pondered this idea from time to time, I say do it! Then call it a Chapparral. (The proposed name of the wankel monza)

Didn't somebody on this forum have the badges from the proposed rotary engine model?

That would be a fitting replacement for the typical Chevy emblem on the front and rear of the car if this swap was performed.
Then came the churches, then came the schools
Then came the lawyers, then came the rules
Then came the trains and the trucks with their loads
And the dirty old track was the Telegraph Road.

Drove an 80's model RX7 once , very impressed ...............motor just keep pulling to 8000 rpm.

Probally would feel safer in a Hbody anyways............ instead of a glorified gocart. :th:

Raced a guy with a RX7 at the track in Ny back in the early 90's , he went from 17's to 14's with only a Holley DP swap.

There was a good looking rotary powered Vega for sale in "Sport's Car", SCCA's monthly some months ago. I posted it on here somewhere.
