What's the tallest front runner you can put under/into stock Vega front wheel well ?

Best regards.

Like any Vega front tire/wheel inquiry, the answer is in the form of yet another question- How much do you like the old-school Gasses look? Vega wheelwells were designed for 23" high or so tire on 13"wheels. Part of the problem is the amount of offset that most 15x3.5 and 15x4 front drag wheels have; it's almost impossible to get the wheel and tire actually under the car. Most of them end up flush with the outer lip of the wheel opening and unable to go up inside.
Don't bother looking at the pics of my Vega drag car; it was built with a 5" narrower track than stock; it has 24"high M/T frontrunners(soon to be switched to 25"Goodyears), but would fit 27 or 28's.

Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

I'm running 3.5's with 145 tires, which are about 24" tall.

Mine sits like this now, but i can't remember the tire size. But i do had a Monza few years back thad did have 26" tall front runners. Are the Monza's wheel wells any different than on a Vega ?

As you can see on the pics of both Mr Campbell's Astre and your Vega, there's not a lot of extra room; 24" is probably the limit with a sensible front ride height. The Monza did have quite a bit bigger wheel opening, so 26" would have fit fine.

I tried I believe a 165 on a 4" rim and it hit the forward lower edge of the wheel well. I would of had to pie cut the sheetmetal to make it work. Luckily I already painted the car so that talked me out of it. But I think the 24" tire looks best proportionally. contrasts nicely with the 26's out back.

The only thing I'm changing is that I'm ditching the 145 Nankang's designed for the front of a rear engined VW. Around the street they may be fine, but I worry a little bit now that I'm approaching low 11's. M/T Sportsmans are next on the list.

Those old 165/r15 VW/Volvo tires didn't have an aspect ratio as part of their size, but would be somewhere between 78 and 85. That would make them somewhere between 25 and 26 inches tall. Due to the differences between manufacturers, tires can vary quite a bit between brands.
