Big Block 1980 Monza Spyder

Postby Milan » Sun Jan 27, 2013 11:55 am

Hello all. I'm a new Monza owner and long time gearhead. I am installing a BBC into my Monza rolling chassis. Can some of you point me in the direction of any sticky posts or archive posts to help me with ideas? I plan to do all the fab work on my own including a firewall setback in the motor/trans area. Also any experienced advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance
Milan

PS Has anyone here experienced their screen darkening when typing? is it the forum or my computer settings? Only happens here...

Milan I would try the search option but I'm sure the BBC guys will chime in. As far as the black screen go up to the address bar there is a symbol that looks like a broken page. This is the compatibility view option, click on it and the black screen should stop. Welcome to the board and show us your car when you get a chance. Brian

Thanks

Look at the top right corner of the screen.... there's a block that says "Search..." .
I typed in Big Block Steering and found this thread..... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32177

This should get you started in the right direction. There are other links to this subject that come up on the search..... I'm sure some of them will prove very useful for you.
Sorry, I'm not a BB guy.... there aren't many here.
There isn't a pic section, but under the Project Journal section and the Garage, there should be lots of guys with details on their cars.... just gotta use the search function to find the BBC ones.

milan here are 2 more posts on BB in vega. go to search and type in(putting big block in a vega) and another is ( big block vega steering shaft relocation). there are some good pics like the ones that megavega showed you. I also remember don(megavega) saying it is easier to install a big block than to install a small block engine in a vega(or monza). if he says that, it is probably most definitely true. good luck with your project art

What have the Big Block Monzas done to maintain the heater fan? It resides in the heater box right where the headers go through the fender.

Thanks again!!!

My guess is if you have a Big Block in a Monza getting heat into the car won't be a problem  Seriously, I am not sure about the heater fan but generally keeping this combo cool will be a bigger concern.

I have elected to set he engine back into the chassis about 4 inches. This should simplify the header situation as well as provide a better handling vehicle. Are there any off the shelf headers that would be a good starting point rather than a build from scratch kit?

thanks again

Hooker makes a Big Block header for a H body #2240. However, with a 4" setback that may change everything as these are designed to fit the chassis with some pretty tight clearances.
