Vacuum ports, Holley carb with Edelbrock intake

Postby 76wagon » Thu Oct 17, 2013 9:35 am

I'm running a Holley 650 DP and an Edelprock performer intake. Only complaint besides the fact I bought a used carb and haven't rebuilt it yet (needs some tweaking) is the carb covers up the large vacuum port in the intake.

Just wondering what people are doing for power brakes and PCV lines who are running this setup, pics would be helpful too. I'm sure this is a common problem so there's probably a simple solution.

Thanks for any input,
Phill

Does the carb have a large vac. tube at the rear of the base plate?
If not, I've seen intakes that were drilled and tapped to relocate a vac. port.

The carb has the big port, I have that going to the brake booster. I figured I'd be drilling and tapping the intake, just didn't want to have to take the thing off. Maybe this can be the kick in the pants I need to rebuild those Vortec heads I have sitting on the bench.....

Hi Phill,

What are you needing additional manifold vac for (besides brake booster)?
PCV Valve?
You should have a smaller manifold vac port on the carb base on the front (likely passenger side) corner.
Usually 2 are there. Careful, 1 is generally manifold and the other port or 'timed' vac.
If you don't have the manual for the carb, throw a vac gauge on real quick to determine which is which.
I have a RPM Perf as well and a double pumper and mine is blocked too.
I hooked my PCV line to the smaller manifold vac I mentioned & it works fine.

Another option is to thead a low profile 90 deg NPT fitting in the one being blocked and with a little carb spacer (perhaps 1/2 - 3/4") it should raise the carb enough to get the clearance you desire.

I'll check those other vacuum ports and see if anything's free. Thought about the carb spacer idea but hood clearance is pretty tight as it is.

This winter I'll be doing the vortec heads so that means different intake, I'll just drill and tap that one for another port in that one before it goes on.
