Fix hatch or get fiberglass replacement?

Postby paranoid56 » Thu Oct 24, 2013 11:51 am

So my rear hatch is quite gone. the edge of where the window is, is fully rusted out and the window is loose. its going to be a PITA to fix (but willing to try)

i know this must be a common problem. Do you guys usually fix it or replace it with a fiberglass hatch? if replacing, whos got one that will take the stock glass and work like OEM?
The car is a 72 Vega GT
Thanks for any help.

I assume you mean 72 Vega.
(If so, remember when looking 71-73 are interchangable and 74-77 are, but you can't mix the 2 generations without changing tail light panel too).

OEM steel hatch with factory glass will be by far your best option for look/fit/finish.
You can scour around looking for a used one. They're around, just expensive to ship if you can't pick it up.
I don't know of replacement glass for them.

If you don;t care a lot about fit/finish qualities, you could get one out of glass like from Show Cars.

But his reputation is mixed (at best), so I'd do your homework with reviews before pulling the trigger.

A lead for you to find an OEM one...

yea the reviews of that company seem very very bad. i see a couple on ebay for cheap but they all seem to be made for lexan and or race only.

I need to pick up a small bender (sold my 48" finger brake some time ago due to size) and maybe a set of shrinker/stretchers and see about fixing this.

The glass is still in good condition too same with the trim. its just all the rest thats not
