1980 Pontiac Sunbird Formula

Postby wheels777 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 10:11 pm

I just bought one. There are filler pieces between the body and bumper that are missing. Does anyone have a picture of what they look like? Does anyone have a set for sale?

Can a Monza nose and tail be installed on the Sunbird? Is the radiator core support different? This is going to be a race car, not a restoration. Thanks.

Aww, no more Formula? ... can you share some pic's of it as it is now?

A monza front bolts on. The rear from the sport model requires a change in the rear mounting panel. Its a spot welding project.

You might be able to bolt a flat monza rear panel on. the sunbird tailpanel is impossible to find..

I'll try to get a pic. And, yes I am thinking the Poncho tail will be a challenge to find.

Assuming you have a hatchback. You will not find the plastic rear filler panel that surrounds the taillights. Many have been searching unsuccessfully for years. It was made from a non UV protected urethane and did not hold up well. The monza counterparts however did hold up quite well. You can change to a Monza rear panel but you also need the metal part of the rear structure that the tail lights mount to for proper fit. They are all different for the different shapes and sizes of lights. The lights look similar in shape and size, but Sunbird lights fit different than Monza lights. I got the rear parts off of a flat tail style monza with chrome bumpers for mine. Same with the front I believe. The radiator supports are different based on two or four headlights and monza style front that drops down between the headlights vs. sunbird style hood that is relatively flat across the front. I think you would need to change the radiator support to use any monza front. In my opinion the quickest, easiest solution is cut the back out of flat tail style monza hatchback and use that rear panel, filler and taillights. Chrome bumpers are same. I don't think formula spoiler quite matches the monza rear filler but might be modified look ok. I plan on using Monza Mirage panels on my Sunbird hatchback so will not be have to deal with the formula rear spoiler fitment issue. Hope this helps.

Yes that helped...Thank you. Yes it is a hatch. Could a Monza filler be modified to match the Poncho taillights?

I do believe you looking for the bumper fillers on the Ft of the car or if it is in the rear the were a solid part of the rear filler panel.
Wish I was better with computes as I could post some links as to the different Tail panels and steel structures for the rear but I can tell you that !
What ever rear filler panel you choose it will bolt in to the sunbird . With that being said you will have to modify the steel tail light mounting to accept the tail lights . Here is a , pic that I 've posted before for other members .
Last%2520Roll%2520-%25203-1.jpg
This is a 80 sunbird with a 80 monza flat panel tail light rear facia attached with the sunbird tail lights.
It is the only found quickly .
Perhaps another member has the other picks of the tail light mounting differences that I have posted handy and could provide the links

Link did not work.

The plastic/rubber piece is missing on my car. I don't have anything between the bumper and the body.
