CV for sale

Duke,

I have too many toys and not enough
time, the only good thing about the CV is, it makes me
appreciate my other cars a lot more.
Try driving a CV for
a week, then get in a ZR1 on the weekend, you'll
know what I mean, plus it takes too much space in my
garage, I've heard the CV can be addictive, so is booze,
but neither one have got me, my ZR1 is my only
addiction.
I got a few calls on it from going to car buff's
places, but they think I will sell for $1500 cdn., when I
say $4500 US, they don't even want to see it any
closer.

I bet most guys see it as a good potential body for
a prostreet.

Al

AL,

Chop up your car, every Cosworth Vega
that is not on the road makes the rest of our CV’s go
up a little in price. I also own a 1995 ZR1 and a
1969 427 3x2 Vette plus some other old relics. I have
two little girls and a nice wife and I make time for
them all. I am a Hydrogeologist and work many hours
pass 40 hours so, a 40-hour workweek would be a walk
in the park for me. Al, you need to sleep less and
lay off the beer. It almost sounds like you need a
friend up in Canada to help you with your
CV.

Well Al, I hope I did not piss you off but, I hate so
see a good person like you leave the CV
community.

CV for sale

Fred,

You didn't piss me off one little
bit, as far as owning a ZR1, I thought I was the only
ZR1 owner with a CV, quite different isn't it?
I
don't want to chop it up, but I get frustrated when I
see what a rust bucket sells for and how much some
guys are willing to waste on a piece of junk, my car
is in excellent shape, and when I try to sell it I
can't even get what a part car would sell for.
As
for sleeping less, if I do, I'll die, after spending
time with my wife and daughter, I go work on the car
sometimes for hours, ask Duke, he even asked me if I ever
sleep, (I don't drink, not even a beer every 2-3
years.)
As for having a friend in Canada with a CV, that
might make it a bit more fun, but right now I know what
would make the car more fun, but it would cost money
and I just can't justify spending anything on it when
I see what it's worth, to me it's like banging my
head against the wall, I'd like better tires, a paint
job, I can't stand the swirl and the little cob webs
cracks in the laquer, it drives me nuts.
As for
calling me a good person, I'm not sure why you think that
way, I do my share of whinning on this site, and I
stir the pot with my questions some times.
I fix
my CV more that most, like if I would be in love
with it, but I would sell it to the best offer, I
tried to like this car, but I find it so damn slow,
it's not even funny, I'll take it to the track to see
if there's anything wrong with it, but it feels like
a 40 sec @ 65 mph car, and it drives me crazy, I
own a 97 Jimmy that weighs 4000 lbs and have only 190
FWHP, and it moves a lot quicker than the CV at 2600
lbs and 110 FWHP, so the HP/lb ratio for the Jimmy is
0.0475 hp/lb and for the CV it should be 0.0423 hp/lb,
but I can't figure out why it is such a DOG, I'm at
the point where I feel like reving it to 4000 and
dump the clutch in order to get it going, I'm pissing
people off in the traffic and they think I do it in
purpose, because I run away from them once I get it to
5000 rpm, but it takes a long time to get it
there.
Anyways, thanks for the kind words, i must sound like the
biggest pessimist on this site, but trust me, I'm not
always like that, if you read my post on the ZR1 net,
you would think it is a different person.
Anyways,
I won't part it out, but I'm going to take a loss
on it, all the parts, labour and Taxes to bring it
in Canada, I can kiss it all goodby, I'll keep you
all posted as soon as it hits the classified and Auto
Trader.

I need more low end torque without spending
money.

Later

Al

Al - have you set up your distributor and EFI
according to the TCT recommendations. Much more torque and
driveability is there for the cost of a vacuum advance and a
couple of distributor springs - about fifteen bucks down
here.

Not yet, I
want to get the cat removed, then fix the FIV and the
distributor and EFI are next on the list.
The cat is still
on, I can cut it out, but I need a pipe made
up.

Al, I do not personally own a Cosworth, but I've
heard similar accusations from Cosworth owners
concerning the need for a 4K launch to do any good. In fact,
your comment reminded me of an old article I read
sometime back that said the same thing, so I looked
through my resource library here and found it. It was Car
Craft, April '74, and here's what they had to
say.

"...Large amounts of rpm and even greater quantities of
clutch slippage are imperative to moving a CosVeg about.
Should your attention ever lapse, you are instantly
afflicted with the "rubber band throttle" syndrome;
flooring the accelerator at anything less than 4,000 is
greeted by absolute apathy from the engine. Several
blocks later, the car may start to accelerate, but only
as an afterthought..."

Sounds like you're not
the only one to experience this Al, but keep in mind,
you're not driving a black & gold "ZR1" here. *smile*
It's easy to be somewhat disappointed in performance
when your "other car" is a ZR1.

Good luck
selling your Cos...you've become quite a knowledgeable
and dedicated participant in this forum. It will be
sad to see you go.

I've been driving #3387 daily since the Roundup. A '76
with the 5-speed, bone stock. Not even lite springs in
the distributor. It has brought back memories of "Old
0971" my original Cos that was my daily driver for
153,000 miles. That too had EFI.

In my experience,
the engine "gets on the cams" at about 3100 rpm. It's
enough of a difference to feel in the seat of your
pants, and it puts a small smile on my face (let's be
realistic, it's no ZR-1--you have to compare it to other 122
ci engines in 2700 lb cars). I can also feel the
"kick" when the double injection mode begins when the
throttle is floored.

The verdict. A fun car to
drive, but lacking in torque below 3000 rpm. Now,
hearkening back to Duke's comment about the racing heritage
embodied in the cylinder head design, remember that you
drive torque and race horsepower. Given that this is
more a race engine than a street engine, you must make
allowances. If you want grunt, stuff in a torquey V-8. If you
want stealty torque, build a 2.3 liter. But remember,
if the question is "How fast can I go?", the answer
is "How much money do you have?".

If you
don't feel the engine come on the cams just above 3000
rpm, and/or don't feel the kick of the double
injection mode when the throttle is floored, then there is
something wrong. You may even be off one tooth on one
camshaft, and that will, as buddyleecjj2 can attest, make a
world of difference.

Al, if I have a schnauzer
dog, I don't complain because it is not a greyhound. I
do complain if it is not the best schnauzer it can
be. If you wanted a greyhound, you should not have
bought a shnauzer.

Thanks for sharing this old Car Craft article
Ken,
it fits right with what I think about the car, as
far as comparing with the ZR1, I don't, but I like to
compare it with my 97 Jimmy, for HP/lbs, and even those 2
are not comparable either.
Can I share my racing
experience on the way home tonight?
The light was red and
beside me an old rusty Dodge Caravan, the guy revved it
holding the brakes, then the light turned green, I was at
3500 rpm when I side stepped the clutch, tires broke
loose, I laid 6 inches of rubber (wider than long), the
Caravan pulled 2 car lenghts from me, I went to 6800 rpm
he is still ahead, I power shifted in full force,
(shirp!), (or was it my butt on the seat), in 2nd gear, I
think I'm gonna get him, he's only 5 car lenghts ahead
at this point, so I'm getting close to 6500, getting
ready for 3rd, damn!, the light turned yellow, I'm too
far from it, I step on the brakes, he makes the light
and I stopped, I look in the rearview mirror, and the
same old lady driving a firefly is still on my ass
from the other light, but this time she is swaring at
me because I made her miss the light...
Here you
go, this is my story and I stick to it.
LOL!

Hello all,

First let me apologize in
advance if this is an inappropriate post for this venue.
I found your club and joined just the other
day.

Posting on behalf of my dad, who is looking to sell CV #
1369. Car has been parked indoors for about 13 years.
Never tagged since buying it.

Car is available
along with other (non CV) Vega parts. Located in
Southern NJ, very close to Philly.

Please email me
directly for more info if interested.

Sorry again
if this is an unwelcome post. I really love these
cars and wish I had time/facilities to restore and
keep this car myself.

Chuck

An acquaintance of mine in the Bay Area sent me
this note.

I saw an ad for a 1975 Cosworth Vega
4 speed in a
local automotive sales paper
(Diablo Dealer). The ad
says that it's in good
condition with leather interior
but it needs engine
work. The asking price is $1,000.
It specifies
#271997, so it may be a dealer, but the
picture doesn't
look like a dealer photo or location.
Anyway, the
phone number is (925)831-1266. This would
be in the
east San Francisco Bay area (Pleasanton,
Walnut
Creek, etc.).
