"old school" way of thought?More Good than Evil??

You can't fix "stupid...
You can't teach "common sense"....
that being said,
this old bugger has had a dislike for the computer age lately as it seems to be the source for more harm than good.
I pay attention to a lot of world affairs and see how Military use is paramount but on the flip side how the "enemy" also utilizes it for there ill gains, eg: ISIL and that "retard" that thinks he's running N.Korea...Saber Rattling more like it and lately trying to drum up support as he "threatens the U.S.A.( Laughing My Ass OFF!!)
I come away with a different point of view on the merits of the Inter-net recently.
For instance, I habitually check several radar sources for "live" weather systems that show what we're in for so to speak within a half hour and that came from being a Road supervisor when it came time to winter maintenance in my area. I check daily as it effects my job to date and whether or not to dress accordingly, drive the Sunbird or boat out on the lake or doing anything that may become a weather related issue. I have taught my family and friends to do the same and therefore my grandchildren are also becoming aware of being safe and going to the basement when severe and threatening weather approaches.
So you see, I'm "converted" and in a goodway, ( and yes there is a word that rhymes with that which is also a misuse for the internet ..providing Creeps a window of opportunity to do evil!)
In closing, because I'm sure this topic could go on for it's good and bad uses for an extended time,
I want to say how PROUD I have become for another very " decent deed" that this internet provides and that is, that most of us have been brought up to be considerate of others in their time "of need" and it shows in "our" internet, on-line Car enthusiast community. Let me qualify this....
the very act of sending "condolences via internet through this club as recent as this week to a very active supporter to our cause, Clyde and Family.
I'm happy that the internet was invented and again restored my faith in this device. Let all of us remain vigilant and supportive of the many terrific uses and uphold it's intended design and I believe that to be of "For the Betterment of Mankind"

Certainly there are a lot of good uses for the internet, it all depends upon what buttons you push  . Like anything else it is the end user that determines whether something is good or bad. Certainly a lot of good on this site.....

everywhere i look, and i mean everywhere, people have become Zombies with their smart phones, guy in jersey was driving a car carrier with car on back, had two phones, texting on one and talking on the other and ran off road, through a fence, and into a backyard swimming pool. this is true. I watched a woman texting, pushing a baby carriage, had a dog on the leash and she walked right off sidewalk and into the street. luckily there was no accident. best for last. a few years ago i was sitting in my car waiting for my workers to show for work. i saw a guy come out of his house a few doors away, texting. he got onto a bicycle and came around corner, still texting and came to my side of the street when he should have been on his side an sideswiped my car a little, still texting. didnt hurt my car so i let him go, hoping his sorry ass would get run over down the street when he came around some traffic. this guy was no kid, he was about 35 yrs. old. i could go on with some other stories, but you all get the gist as to whats happening to our society with these SMART PHONES. art

Just to add to that, last month I was sitting at a light(it was red) behind a Nissan with a girl driving her black boyfriend (don't get me started on that) and I look in the mirror and see this big black Navigator pull up behind me so close all I could see was the hood ornament. I look back out front and then BANG! my head snaps back into the head rest and then BANG! my head snaps forward and hits the steering wheel. What happened ?? The light goes green and the Navigator bank shots me into the Nissan. Why? the boy driving the tank was busy texting and looked up,saw the light go green and hit the gas, this all happened in about a second, Im ok but pissed, get out and go back to the Navigator about the time this kid gets out and has this big shit eatin grin on his face,I get into his like Sgt.Carter did Gomer Pyle(remember) and this little shit stands there just grinning like its funny.About this time I look back at the Nissan and the black kids gets out and starts to rub his neck, I guess the look on my face made him change his mind cause he gets back in the car.Cop comes and we all do the change info thing and while the cop was talking to the kid I hear him say "yeah I was texting". While I was waiting to give my part of the story I watched at least 7 other cars go by either texting or talking on a phone. Best one yet...Im at Wall mart in line waiting and this big fat bitch runs into my back side, yep, texting! I turn around and she gives me a nasty look, goes back to texting,Ive never hit or hurt a woman in my life but that was one time I make an exception. I love my "puter" but like a sore dick, sometimes you just have to let it go.

I agree that there are too many people that can't seem to put their phones down. Last year at the yearly company-wide meeting(about 200 people), the company I work for issued a challenge to everyone. They handed everyone a $50.00 bill, and said; "We challenge everyone here to go 1 month without using your cell phone while driving. If you accept the challenge, keep the money. If you fail, you must give the money back." I think about 40% of the people failed. I'm not saying that these people are bad, but with the nation's statistics rising for phone related car accidents, maybe, just maybe, people should open their eyes, put down their phones, and drive safe.
If it don't scare me, I don't want it.

Oh yeah, to add to the cell phone addiction, how many of you have a favorite watering hole? How when you sit down get a beer and look around and check out how many people are face down on their I pad ? You say hi hows it goin? they look up say hi and go back to texting/messaging,facebooking and all the cute things you can do with your phone. Want to check how smart/knowledgeable people are? Ask a question like," how far is the earth from the sun?"and watch how many will Google it. Sooo...is it a evil good thing or a good evil thing? NO NO NO CANT GOOGLE IT!!!

phones and computers are tools, and are only as good or bad as the person behind them.

Don't blame (or credit) the tool, blame the person behind them - no ?

Ok, Dec.30 I took my granddaughter to see the latest Star Wars movie for her birthday, as we were leaving the theater, I looked to my right and along the wall there were 12,yes 12 kids sitting side by side and every one of them were texting their collective asses off! It reminded me of the movie 12 monkeys!

I'm glad to see most would agree that it is the end user and with most people around the globe using their common sense while utilizing the electronic age but it really is becoming more dangerous as society gets hooked deeper and our youth of today has become entirely dependent on it. Sad really. It has become so that now stiffer penalties had to be imposed on drivers that are caught with huge consequences and they're weeding them out but not before loss of life and /or serious events take place...loosing one's driving privledges doesn't even scare or deter these idiots! Imagine not having a way to get around to work or afford the insurance because of getting caught...now in Alberta it's 3 demerit points and a big fine...I see them driving past the police who are on scene and they're still on the devices looking right at the Cops and it's just mind blowing! You really can't fix stupid..or as my good friend says, "stupid can't have pain" meaning that it's something that they must be numb to....I'm reminded of the idiot pushing the wood into the giant wood chipper that's running and he's using his foot :bang: there is a caption that says, "You can't fix stupid so to eliminate the stupid people, just remove all warning labels!"...Good Idea!! ..eventually we might be rid of them all and us that respect the modern day equipment and electronics will go on to enjoy stuff without the added distractions around us....but of course that's wishful thinking
