I haven't done model railroading yet, but I most likely will someday.... One of my favorite things from my child hood, is the first street I lived on. It was built the old right of way for the defunct interurban trolley system that connected into Lockport and Niagara Falls. The street also ran parallel to an existing (then) Railroad also connecting to Niagara Fall's, called the "Fall's Road " That began operating in 1853!!
Vega engines would have made their way down these tracks from the Aluminum plant in Massena, to the Tonawanda engine plant in NF. (NY). Loved watching trains go by. Still do. There's tons of old rail trails and rail history around here, my facebook feed has 3 abandoned railroad pages post tons of awesome old local pictures.
