I just got a set of Gabriel Guardian shocks at Autozone. They were in stock, and delivered to the store closest to me within hours. They're just a stock type replacement shock, but I'll get fancy with drag shocks later... I just needed to get my car on the road.
75 Pontiac Astre GT: 406SBC/TH350, roll bar, S10 goodies, down to 11.47 so far, more to come later.
I did the same thing to get my Vega wagon going. My tires stick out in the rear and used to rub like crazy. Now it's alot better.
Autozone got them in 2 days and now I'm rollin'!
I have been running QA1 coilovers for a year or so and they are the best shock I have ever had on the car in the 10 years I've owned it. I have mine adjusted to the 3rd position and they work great. They are a bit spendy $$ so they were my combined birthday Christmas present to myself. The old tax return ploy where I pass on my birthday present and Christmas present only to collect after tax time. The wife knows what I'm doing hoarding all my wants for that single annual purchase and she doesn't mind as she spreads her's out throughout the year. I'm presently in hoarding mode for a set of SSB powdercoated S10 two piston calipers which will grace my car next March.
I'm going through the same problem here. the rear shocks i got work fine for stock ones part # pmp 89203 gardians by gabriel. how ever the ones they ordered for the front part # pmp 82129 also by gabriel didn't work. they had studs on bottom end of shock mine are horse shoe like. so i found a different part # online and waiting for them to come in and see if they are correct. those are monroe part # LE10081.
Deep pocket control arms began in 1975 for all H Body models, coincident with the thicker lower ball joint stud. These improvements were made to cure the tendency the Vega had to shear off the ball joint stud from the balljoint on very bad pot holes.
