Check out this frame rust-through in a critical suspension area. I believe if this completely gives way, the passenger side of the car drops down to the floor. Putting this in perspective, I got 10 years of use out of the car ('06), as of this year, and so far 157k miles. It was a $1 a mile to purchase. So a pretty average transportation deal overall.
And I live in the rust-belt... this is what we get for roads that need to be massively de-iced for almost half a year some years.
Just interesting to see the same old problem occurring so many years later. You'd think it would have been solved by now. I complained to the dealer when the car was new and under warranty about traces of rust in the area and they said...."if it wasn't rusted through" ... well there's your rust through now. But I'm passed the life expectancy of the car so I think I did ok, and it's holding on for now...
If it wasn't for this maybe I'd consider a future like this.....
