During clean up I was able to separate the lens / reflector from the bulb retaining back half. Cleaned up good the lens was almost clear. Only a slight amber left in spots.
After some research I determined that
Krylon STG-9034 Stained Glass Paint - Tangerine Orange might give some acceptable results. There was one other transparent aerosol polycarbonate RC/model paint available at more than twice the cost for half the paint. I decided against it. I struggled a little with the thought of paint vs dye. In the end I went with paint. At the very least I could probably remove it and try a dye of some sort if it failed. A botched dye job seemed more likely to be a problem if it pooled in the wrong places.
It took half a dozen light coats of the stained glass paint on the inside of the lens to get the amber I wanted. I think I could do better next time. There are some light areas where I could have done a better job of removing the plastic from the back where it had been adhered. It was not obvious when I cleaned it up and it was faded white/clear.
I used
3M 08061 Plastic and Emblem Adhesive To glue them back together after the paint dried.
I think they are better than they were by far. We will see how they look when the car is done.
