Dash paint and chrome paint

Postby 71GTKammback » Sun Jan 08, 2017 12:07 am

Just painted this monza dash with sem firethorn red. Matches the original very well. Touched up with a chrome marker pen that looks factory.

Looks great. Was it originally firethorn? My firethorn instrument cluster is cracked and has some holes drilled in it. Been looking for a replacement, but find every color but firethorn. Thought about dying one of them.

I have the original firethorn dash. Same color as this black one now is. It is the dash without tach and gauges but in very good condition. The SEM paint goes on perfectly and look factory.

Here is the chrome-ish touch up pen. Worked very well.

Very nice job, detailing the chrome edge goes a long way to getting the dash to look correct. I have done the same to mine many years ago and have also suggested it to many owners of cars I have judged over the years. I also used Krylon, yours looks a little different than the pen I have. How close to "chrome" is it? Or does it look more like silver?

It is very close. Close enough that you can put it next to the original chrome and have to look hard to find the difference. The wide applicator helps it go on perfectly. Well worth 9 bucks

You press down on the tip on paper and it flows onto the tip. Did an amazing job of staying stable and laying down sharp edges. Never too much paint. Never thought it would work this well.

For those who can't find one of these, I used a chrome Sharpie and was happy with the job it did.

Looks good. Any important prep you did before painting the dash?
