Boy I'm TIRED!!!

Postby monzacoupe » Sat Jan 21, 2017 10:42 pm

Anyone else watching the Barrett-Jackson auction? Anyone else as TIRED as me at seeing that many Corvettes and Mustangs? Don't know about you, but I keep hoping to see the under-represented cars like the '50's Mercury's and such. I haven't looked but I'm sure there hasn't been a single h-body across the block this year.

You could always go to the Barrett-Jackson site and check out the day's docket. Compare the day's offerings to where they are on the telecast and see when you want to return.

I'm struggling to find the time to watch the hours and hours of auction coverage that's threatening to clog up my DVR. I think I'm presently working on Friday afternoon. At least when watching the recorded program, I can fast forward through the Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and other crap. I'm usually pretty good at predicting what kind of $$$ a muscle car or street rod will bring, but this year, the market appears to be volatile. I'm way wrong most of the time, with nice cars going for half of what I think, or ugly, dated builds getting big money. It is interesting to see some resto mods and non numbers matching clones fetching huge numbers; the purists must be very angry
I will say one thing- if you're a "car guy", you have to put on your bucket list to go to a B-J auction at least once. Best damn car show on the planet; I went to Scottsdale in 2014, and can't wait to go again, maybe in 2018.

Well I have to admit I am terrible at guessing prices, there seems to be no method for me to figure it out. Like Spence said, some cars seem to go cheaper than I thought and others are way up there. However, I did also notice that a lot of restomods are indeed going for some nice money, nice to see they are appreciated as they are my favorite. Almost any car can be improved over factory in my opinion. Yeah, I wouldn't mess with a COPO Camaro or Hemi Cuda etc. but it's nice to see those modified Vette's and Camaro's getting some respect.

10% seller fee and 10% buyers premium, along with very very few cars allowed to have a reserve, all adds up to only the most popular " sure things" end up at BJ.
The cars we are interested in end up at the other two auction houses.

Kev442 brought up the "other" auction houses, and to be completely honest, I think the Russo & Steele Scottsdale auction(same time as the B-J, and only a few miles away) had a better mix of vehicles that were of interest to me. No million dollar antique Dusenburgs or brand new Bugattis, just lots of muscle cars and street rods. Prices not nearly as inflated, and due to it's smaller size, easier to see all the vehicles in a couple of hours.
