It has been a while since I was active in this forum. I still have the Vega and I just want to say hi to all of you. Currently working on other projects, the -75 grand am recieved a 565" BBC, TH400 + gear vendors OD and 9" rear end and will go on the dragstrip in 2017. And I just bought a 2016 L83 + 6L80E engine for my -72 firebird, which will be my summertime daily driver when finished.
About the front suspension geometry:
I managed to get the caster I liked (around 3 degrees) by cutting and rewelding the upper control arms. I basically cut them close to the rear attachment point, removed if i remember correctly 1/4" and the rewelded them with an extra plate on the back side for support.
I am overall very happy with the way the car runs and drives. Really it does not see too much driving, but when it does I dont baby it =). I have about 5000km on it since 2013.
Broke the propeler shaft at the drag strip. Here is a good advice: Do not shorten a factory aluminum prop shaft. Apparently they are hardened at time of manufacture and any heating (welding) will weaken the material.
Attaching some pictures.
