74-77 kammback rear glass trim

Postby kgroombr » Sun Apr 02, 2017 10:51 pm

I thought I remember a post where somebody found a suitable replacement for the plastic chrome-like trim around the rear glass on a Vega Kammback. I searched for a while with no luck. If anybody knows a suitable replacement or can find this post, I would greatly appreciate it.

Funny, I just found my invoice from where I got mine. It was from the Roadster Factory, and I believe it is a windshield molding insert for an MG. Part number is RFK147, and it cost 10.57 in 2014, plus shipping.

Just out of curiosity is the trim the same for a 72 kammback?

No. The 71-73 used aluminum trim I believe. Maybe stainless. The glass was inserted using butyl putty (basically like inserting a front windshield). The 74-77 used a rubber gasket similar to the type used to install the rear quarter windows. There is a groove in the rubber gasket to insert plastic trim with a chrome finish.

If you are looking for some of the 71-73 trim, I have a friend that has a complete rear 71-73 wagon hatch (pretty rusty), but the glass and trim is in good shape. I am sure he will sell it.

Thanks for the offer but I have some nice trim already. I'm just always on the hunt for spare stuff!
