Crate long block ?

Postby dannykarnage » Mon May 01, 2017 3:52 pm

anybody know what a good basic 350 Longblock would be? I don't need anything fancy. I was thinking maybe this one...

EDIT: posted the wrong link originally. This is the one I meant to link to...https://m.summitracing.com/parts/nal-10067353/none/images

I would avoid that one, it is a Replacement built for towing and fuel economy for 88-95 GM TBI trucks. Heads are one of the worst flowing ever made. ( all done at 4100 rpm ) Look online, more info there. ( I Have one in my truck with 105k miles ) good to 300k miles + though. :th:

One went a million miles in a truck ,it was for sale a couple of years ago on EBay.

Now thats better....... :th: Good base motor, could use a bigger cam. Good for pump gas aka 87 octane ( low compression)

the 350/290 HP is the next step up, but it is cheaper to change the cam in the base engine if you provide the labor.
GM Performance 12499529 Small Block Chevy 350/290 HP Long Block,
either one would work, being 2 piece rear main seal blocks they offer more choices for oil pans.
I do not reccomend Vortec heads for H-body swaps, the intakes are taller and the spark plugs are closer to the header tubes.
For stock hood clearance use 1st gen heads with a Torker II or a Performer intake.
