Door Panel fix?

Postby dindin » Fri Jan 05, 2018 10:26 am

Well since I redid my seats I noticed my door panels looks a little shabby around the edges, the driver side front corner was pulling and very wavy, So I read online of people who say they had good results wetting the cardboard backing and putting weigh on the panels for a few days, I guess the theory is the water will soften them and the weight will re-warp them straight..

I put the panels under a sheet of plywood and and front facing the floor with a plastic tarp on wither side of the sandwich

I think I will wait 4 days and see how they look...maybe the process will require some tweaking if im still not happy.

That should work. I had to take out my headliner and use a squirt bottle to wet it and get some horrible sags out of it...(1972 gt)....worked like a charm...

]They came out pretty good after the burial for 3 days and nights  The driver side lower edge is straight but the cardbaord is comming apart, I was thinking maybe adding a layer thin plastic in the corner or maybe some epoxy..

Just FYI I was surprised to find these on Ebay when I was searching for something else.

Every ebay auction they have for those backer boards uses that same pic regardless of the model car they are for. I think its just a generic pic.

Mine was not "bad enough" that I would want to risk removing the vinyl from the original cardboard panel, it was detaching itself around the bottom and when I started to peel it more I noticed it was also glued in the center part of the panel and under the chromed plastic..

This is how far around I went.
