You could check the lift with a dial indicator and see if it matches the specs in the Chevrolet Performance catalog listing for the HO 502, but that can be tricky to get an exact measurement with a hydraulic lifter. Only way to know for sure exactly what's in there is to remove the top timing gear and look at the part #. And that's not actually 100% for sure. Back about 6 years ago I bought a complete running engine out of a drag car that the previous owner had built by some Oval Track shop; I wanted to know the cam specs, so I dropped the oil pan, pulled the front cover and cam gear and I was greeted with nothing legible. The builder had obliterated the part and grind #'s with an engraving tool; obviously some kind of "secret weapon" camshaft.
