262ci. Original Monza engine complete.no miles

Postby Scott Marshall » Fri Feb 23, 2018 2:07 pm

Bought a project Jeep. Along with it acquired a motor on a stand. It was taken out of a wrecked Monza with 500 miles on it. The motor had been oiled and turned over for the last 35 years previous. Anyway took it to the local race. Shop. Fired it off he said he would not have believed it if he hadn't seen it .. .. the bottom line is it really should be in original car since there are none of these.. Any Great Ideas.

I am not sure. I used it to mock up the conversion on my Jeep. And speaking about it with the engine guru thought it though perfect for this build it would be a shame to use as such. I asked him how much he thought it was worth , he said 3,500 no question,, but since the only other one would have to be a original no mile car, who knows? . obviously I would need a SBC.complete plus? Just don't know, that is why I'm reaching out. I'm located in the Seattle area any input appreciated. Scott out .

If he thinks it is worth $3500 ask him if he wants to buy it. H-bodies are not big dollar cars, so it is unlikely you will find a buyer at that price.
Mid 70's small blocks also had issues with soft camshaft lobes making them less desirable unless you plan on doing a cam swap anyway.
for $3500 you can get a new 350 or 383 with aluminum 2.02 heads and a roller cam.
for $2000 you can get a new Chevy 350 crate engine with a warranty and free shipping.
75 Monza 262 was rated at 110 HP the same as the 75 Cosworth Vega 4 cylinder which is about 300 pounds lighter.
Use it in the Jeep.

Based on the spending habits of the typical Monza enthusiast, I would be surprised if you can get $500 for it, let alone $3500.

I have seen many good running 262's go to scrap because nobody wants them. The only thing that would make it valuable is if it has the original Monza brackets and pulleys. That would make it worth about $150.

Thanks guys I'll run it then. I put it in a 1975 cj5 456 gear arb.air lockers automatic, for hunting. Quiet and slow is good for me , just didn't want to run a motor that was 43 years old, with 12000 made, if someone needed it. Any SBC would do for me.., also I've found that parts are still available... I'm new to Chev. I'm Ford Jeep So what I know would Fill A Thimbleful,,,,,, Again thanks for school
