Tire Size Availability ??

Postby Mark in INdiana » Fri Apr 06, 2018 11:08 pm

I’m looking for the wide front and wider rear tire look for my old school look 76 Vega, hot street machine on performance all season tires. Combing thru the forum threads, I settled on 215 or 225-50-15 front and 255 or 275-50-15 rear tires. Got the 5 lug wheels picked out. Look for tires - NOPE. Even something that is just round and black - NOPE. Focus on the front tires and I can sorta find something that works in 16” but still really nothing for the rear. Quickly scanned Coker, BFGoodrich, M/T and Tire Rack. The question is; what have you guys found? I appreciate any information. Thanks!

Hi Mark! I have 255-60R-15 on my Sonoma P/U [should be easier to find if that works for you] I have had BFG and now Hankook [BFG's were more money but better traction than the Hankook's] and more than a few links came up for my primary search for tires for you. 255-50's https://ca.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt ... p-t-s&fp=1 and 275-50's https://ca.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt ... p-t-s&fp=1 Now weather they will fit that is an entirely different discussion, I have had 205-60R-13's [Dunlap GT Qualifiers that rubbed on all four corners on my '76 Monza, however the '70's Ass High in the air look may net different results if that is part of your "look"! Sorry I have limited experience in that neighbourhood. Harry

Nitto makes 275-50-15's in the 555 series drag radial

BFGoodrich TA's in 60 series 235 or 245 for the rear, 205 in front.

Another thing is to measure before you buy. Also depends how much your car has been modified.

Absolutely Dick. I’m in the planning stage and starting with a stock, original 76 Vega. Gathering information and determining how to execute. My last project included G60/N50’s on an early Camaro. The enthusiast tire availability situation has really changed since then. I appreciate all the help and information on this forum! Mark

Any update on this? I currently have 265/50/15 Hankook tires on the back of my Vega and I'm curious what the widest tire I can fit.
