It is an interesting article. I just don't know if I believe how he
explains away what most older techs have witnessed, when they were cutting
rotors on brake lathes.(high spots, with corresponding low areas, on the
opposite face of the rotor) The fact that the problem goes away after
resurfacing, kind of puts a small hole in his theory. The reason the
problem reappears, is that the only variable that was changed, was the
diminished amount of material, on the rotor. Vehicle weight, and the
driver's braking habits remain the same. With less metal, the problem
would come back sooner, because there would be less of a heat sink(rotor) to
bleed off the heat produced by the friction. Maybe I am just too old to
take in all this highly technical info, but the way I learned, and taught
the theory of brake warpage is probably what I will go to my grave
believing. My myth, and I am sticking with it.
