If you are careful with the screw driver and go clip by clip you should be
fine. I think there is a proper tool, but good luck finding one.

Thanks Bob. I understand that. How about the door panel? Once I remove the
door handle bezel, arm rest, and window crank, what do I use to pry off the
door panel? Will a screw driver work, or do I risk breaking the clips? If
there is a tool for this, can I get one at an auto parts store?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

There is a tool to remove the clip, but a small screwdriver works
too. The c-clip snaps over a groove the the window crank shaft and
splines in the handle & shaft allows for the rotation.

Just push on the c-clip (open ends of wire) and you will slowly work
the clip off the shaft. It will "pop" off and may end up on the
ground. Pull the crank handle off.

Just install the c-clip in the slot in the crank handle (it will snap
in place), and rocate the handle where you want it at assembly.

Thanks Cliff, I will stop by Pep Boys and Schucks tonight to see if I can
find the right tool. I'm one of those people that hate trying to jimmy rig a
tool to make the job work. Even if I only use it once, I will buy it just to
have it, IF I can find it. If not, the screwdriver will have to work.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Cliff, I will stop by Pep Boys and Schucks tonight to see if I can
find the right tool. I'm one of those people that hate trying to jimmy rig a
tool to make the job work. Even if I only use it once, I will buy it just to
have it, IF I can find it. If not, the screwdriver will have to work.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes there is a tool for both operations. They are not expensive and
easy to find at auto parts stores. The door panel clip remover is
very helpful in that it helps to prevent you from damaging the door
panel itself. One time I couldn't find my tool and I ripped part of
the panel trying to pry it off with a screwdriver. The clips are
still available but it is hard to repair the door panel. The tool
for that is about $8 and the tool for the window crank removal is
about $5. I think you can find that one in the HELP parts section.
Good luck, Chris

you can buy a tool, but a claw end (nail remover end) plastic barbed
fasteners are is the way I do it. Make sure the clip is centered in the "V"
and slowly pry ioff like a nail. 90% of the time you can get them out without
damaging the cardboard backing of the door panel and most of the time you can
reuse the plastic barb clips that hold the panel in place. There is 14 of
these buggers around the perimeter.

Don't forget to remove the remote for the mirror on the driver's sid eif so
equipped.

Take care.

bob

Hi there I am Jonathan Denton. I own Cosworth #409 and live in Maryville Tn. I
talked to Mr. Cooper tonight and he seems to be a nice person. I Think the car
he has is a great deal and I wish I could buy it for myself. But alas, my wife
says that I can't have anymore cars till I sell something. From talking to him
I think that this car is worth the money and more. I covet the dash bezel on
this one as mine is not too good. Is the dash bezel available anywhere ? I
will be joining the CVOA soon so I you will hear, or should I say see more from
me.

excellent weekend project or valuable parts car. 51,662 miles on
the odometer. It is black with a white interior and has all the

car includes build sheet, owner's manual and a meticulous

Personally, the car seems like a steal at this price. Just a guess,

There were people way back when. Go to the search
engine on Cosworth vega web site and check out the
discussions. Duke has a number of thoughts on the
concept. There are also articles that tell you how to
shorten the coils you already have on the CVOA website
as well (www.cosworthvega.com). Unless you have done a
lot of suspension work it may not be the best idea. It
does lower your CofG by the amount that you lower it
but it also affects suspension travel which is not all
that great on the Vega to begin with and the roll
centers, etc. Duke and CVOA sell a good set of
articles that discuss the suspension in depth. Check
them out. Jim

Cosworths tend to have a history of being alternator "eaters". Some
are hungrier than others. Whether it be the heat, location,
vibration, every Cosworth I have ever owned has had an alternator
problem. #2172 was such a beast that I quickly developed a method to
just remove the back half of the alternator housing to replace the
voltage regulator in 15 minutes! I would use the rear defogger
to "tame" high voltage during drives before I had a chance to replace
the regulator. I'd get the high amperage but make sure you get the
one with a one year or lifetime replacement. I've made good use of
the replacement over the years.

Thanks Britt. Will I have to fabricate a mounting bracket for the dash
speaker to fit it to the underside of the dash if I buy a speaker from radio
shack? The factory speaker has a weird shaped magnet on it, allowing the OEM
bracket to attach it to the dash. All of the aftermarket speakers I have
seen have a round magnet, so the factory bracket won't work.

Subject: [Cosworth Vegas] Re: Speakers

Mike, since there were only a few CVs with the 8 track option, and
probably very few Vegas, you will probably have to make a bracket. Go
to radio shack to get your speakers. They sell single speakers and in
the correct impedence. You need 16 ohm coils in the speakers if you
want a direct replacement. There are ways to wire it so you could
have two speakers up front, but you won't end up with a "stereo"
sound anyways, so I'd just stay with one. They are 4"x10". The are
real cheap at Radio Shack too,

Britt
