Actually there are 2 different types of
engines:260/307/330/350/403 1966-85 and 400/425/455 1967 &up.
The engines
have different deck heights and bore/bearing
diameters/strokes and while a 400/425/455 will bolt up they are of
different dimensions than the others and unfortunately I
called a buddy and he informed me that a 403 or 350 old
for that matter wont fit without MAJOR
reconstruction/modification/fabrication for a VEGA or a Monza.
As a fellow Pontiac
lover the Pontiac engines from 265 to 455 are all the
same deck height,width,length etc.
Any Pontiac
engine from 1965 up will all interchange, period.
I
know a fella who had a 301 and took the turbo parts
off and put it on a 350 and installed them in a 65
Tempest with a 4 speed and it would flat scream, after he
bout a better wastegate setup from a turbo 6 Porsche
owner it would run even better. Then he had Gale Banks
set up a blow thru Holley to take place of crappy
Q-jet.
If I had the money I could buy a 78 Trans Am with a
390 horse 428 fully blue printed and a switch pitch
400 that has ran a best of 10.40 in the 1/4 mile with
no NOS.It has some sweet old school heads which are
Dport not Ram Air which I think is so cool, and yes I
saw the car run at IRP and was flat blown away as it
was DQ'ed since it had no cage just subframe
connectors and Cal-Tracs bars.
Oh well hope this
helps.
