Well, since I'm not spending much time updating
my webpage anymore, I thought I'd update you on my
progress here. My car was painted yesterday! YEAH! I was
all ready to give up on the project because no one
would paint it, or they wanted an outrageous amount and
they couldn't promise it back for
6+months.

Anyway, before he sprayed it, I checked out the bodywork
and it looks great. I really like the prep work the
guy did, so I hope the paint comes out as good. Any
little bit of rust he cut out and welded in new pieces.
It all looked very good.

I will be bringing
the shell home next Sunday. He is painting the
doors/hood/fenders/hatch off the car. I probably won't have those back
until January, but I have a lot to do before I need
them anyway.

As soon as the car comes home it
goes on the rotisserie.

Take carry and have a
happy Turkey day.

Robert, it can be
done!

Brian

Well, I finished stripping the undercarriage to
bare metal and covering with POR-15 a week ago. Last
night I shot the first coat of primer on the underside
and tonight it will get another coat. I should be
shooting the gloss black paint sometime this week as well.
The car will probably come off the rotisserie next
weekend! My doors/hood/hatch/fenders etc. are done from
the paint booth. I guess I better start putting this
thing together now.

Brian

P.S. Pictures
are being developed!

I would have had a good welder take a look at the welds if I had my car on a rotisserie - good opportunity to maybe add some welds for more strength. Also, http://www.dragglass.com/ has H-body parts.

Brian,
Did you get any POR on anything that
you weren't suppose to get it on? :-D Like your
hands? "Oh,..... lacquer thinner'll get it off....."
NOT
Another thing,.... some of the POR paints are UV
sensitive. Be sure to topcoat them correctly as they WILL
fade. I know from personal experience. :-/

It doesn't make much sense to do that. The
floorpan is stamped in one piece all the way from the
firewall to behind the rear footwell area and then a piece
for the spare tire well and a piece for the rest.
There isn't much support needed back in that area.
Plus, the 6-point cage and the subframe connectors add
a significant amount of stability over what could
be done with welding in the spare tire
well.

Yes, I got POR 15 on everything I wasn't supposed
to. The only way to get it off your hands is to let
it wear off as your skin wears away. Rubber gloves
are a necessity. I found that Hydrochloric Acid,
undiluted, will take it off my garage floor. Also, POR 15
does not stick to plastic, period, so it's easy to get
off plastic. I used a plastic container and scoop to
work with. When the POR 15 hardened, I simply peeled
it out and was ready to go again. As for topcoating,
read the rest of the post :) I primered first coat
last night and will do another tonight or tomorrow.
Then gloss black enamel over that.

Take
care,

Brian
