My knee jerk reaction is to go with the Holley because it's a dual plane for lower torque. I'm pretty sure however that the 350 responds well to the single plane. I've read a couple car mag articles swapping intakes for the 350 and because of it's cylinder filling dynamics it can cope with the single plane better because it makes more vacuum at low RPM than other SBCs.

WOW that was a long sentence. I also don't have ANY practical experience with the 350 so that's that.

what tranny do you have

i have a 73 camaro that i ran a old holley street dominator single plain on it is a 4 speed car i loved that intake on the car

and i had a 78 camaro that i ran a edelbrock torker 2 on it was allso single plain and a 4 speed worked great

i think the standard tranny cars do better with single plain manifolds

and the auto tranny cars will do better with a duel plain manifold unless you want to run a stall converter

I would stick with a dual plane intake for a stock 350 on the street , especially with a stock automatic.

Also be careful about the overall height of your intake and carb. I am not certain about later year h-bodies, but hood clearance on a v8 Vega with a stock hood can be very tight. Many single plane intakes are higher than dual planes.

My favorite SBC street intake was an old Offenhauser piece I had on my Vega . It was called a Dual Port 360 (as in degrees - not a mopar piece .... ) anyway it worked great and when combined with a Holley 600 cfm carb and drop base 14" aircleaner....it fit under the stock hood on the 72 Vega.

One more thing you mention your engine is a a stock 350 with 194 head and the Edelbrock Scorpion intake was used on your uncle's drag car.....which i am willing to bet had a bit more than a stock 350 with 194 heads :) I'm just saying...

Also your 780 dual feed Holley seems like a bit much for a stock 350.....

I agree that a dual plane will probably be best for a street car. The info about the hood clearance could be a determining factor. Although I am running a old Edelbrock C3BX two plane hi-rise patterned off the the late 60's Z/28 intakes, it is higher than a stock low rise GM manifold and I do have to run a drop base 14" air cleaner with a short 2 3/4" air filter element. Even at that the air cleaner just touch the hood insulation. So, measure what you have and don't slam the hood until you know it fits!

Unless you are going to do Heads/cam/exhuast then that Holley is going to work way better than the Scorpion on a stock motor.

With a stock-ish motor you shouldn't need more than a 650cfm carb. I used a 650 holley on a 383 and it worked great until we got it a better flowing intake, (ie Edelbrock performer RPM).

Another alternative would be a quadra-jet carb, if set up right they will only give the engine what it needs.

I agree with Darrel. You shouldn't need any more than a 650 carb. I had a 600 double-pumper on my 383, and it ran 12.80s. I use the same 600 on my 355 now. The throttle response is much crisper than the 750 Edelbrock I had on it before.

my clearance with an Edelbrock performer EPS (~4.25" high in the center) and a 670cfm holley street avenger necissitated (spelling?) the use of a 1"dropdown airfilter... just a heads-up in case u don't wanna cut up your hood.
