will an lsx intake mount up so it can be used for cowl induction?

look into a system used on the LS1-based F-Bodies. they had a functional hood scoop. I'm sure you could duct it differently but it'd be pretty restrictive, imho
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.

reversed intake

I am trying (thinking) about puting a LSX-t56 into a vega and was wondering if the factory intake could be reversed to use a cowl induction system because I will be puting a distributor up front while keeping the injectors but not the factory wiring. Anybody tried this? any help would be appreciated.
smog is caused by tire dust on the highway

Oddly enough, the intake can be mounted backwards. The problem with the H-bodies though is the tight confines of the engine compartment. To mount the throttle body you will have to cut a hole in the firewall/cowl. If you could find room for the throttle body, MAF, and filter, you would be drawing air in from a high pressure area. With such a setup you wouldn't need a cowl induction hood.
An easier solution would be an Edelbrock LS carb intake. The Victor version comes with injector bungs I believe. Then you could use a cowl hood in much the same manner as you would with a carburator.
If you are keeping the injection, and all the elctronics to run it, why would you use a distributor?

going thru the firewall to the wiper arm area wouldnt be a problem, but the cowl hood would be easier considering that it could drop straight over the filter. I would not need anything but
the throttle plate, filter and connecting tubing. I would need the distributor because I would be using electromechanical fuel injection which does not require a computer. Since the intake will work backwards it would not interfere with the distributor which must (and most logically should have been)locate in the front. My other question now is which is the best factory exaust to use in a stock vega, (F body, GTO, Vette, or truck) any additional help would be appriciated, and thanks for answering my question about the intake.

You'll have trouble running the front mount distributer set up thats currently out. It sticks out 3 to 4 inches of the crank snout and looks like it would run into the radiator.

is this the one sold by GM, i thought it mounted thru the timing chain cover over by the drivers side head. if it interfears i may have to do some modifications.

Bill, I think GM made their "FIX" too complicated. No one in their right mind runs a mechanical fuel pump anymore. They cost horse power, plus there is always the chance that they will leak fuel into the engine and wash out therings and bearings (especially the way they mount the pump). I may make my own system that does not have the fuel pump lobe on it. All it would take is my lathe and a junk camshaft. That should save about 3/4 inch, or add a gear to run off the timing chain. Maybe using an LT1 or electric water pump. Still head scratching at this point.

you could always just put a carburetor on it and KISS.

The edelbrock kits look pretty cool, and theyre functional from what I hear.
With them Im sure you could use all the stock HEI and coil per plug on valve cover arangement.

But I have no real world experience with LS series engine other than driving them and drooling over them.

The carb would work well with a cowl induction hood setup...just seal it off right and be fast.

I would use the MSD set up for the LS swap. It runs your ingnition and has a harness to plug everything in. I think it's like four or five wires total and run a good carb up top. The LS likes more carb then a gen I but it'll be trial and error. I'm using the stock EFI and a modified stock harness with the '98 computer.
