Fuel filter on a Rochester 2GC?

Postby goldboattail455 » Tue Nov 27, 2007 12:21 am

Where is the fuel filter for my '75 Skyhawk, it has the 2bbl Rochester 2GC. It is mentioned in the service manual to replace it but the fuel system diagram does not show it. I followed my lines and they do not have one. It can't be integral, does it not have one?

where the fuel line goes into the carburetor there should be a very large fitting in the carb...that unscrews to reveal your fuel filter....its IN the carburetor.

Just like the 4V rochesters.

Sometimes its just a screen and sometimes it a sintered bronze filter.
Can also be a paper filter with metal and rubber caps on the ends.
About as big around as a nickel and about 2-3 inches long.

I would recomend removing it and going with a higher flow inline filter like on the newer TBI chevy trucks....3/8 in and out with female threads on both sides.....easy

God bless

Looks like a choke pulloff or a high/fast idle vacuum canister.
Thats my best guess without seeing what it goes to from a top view.

Looks like you also have a coolant regulated choke thermostat...cool.

What I see in the pic with the arrow pointing to is the throttle shaft.

Note;,,,, On removing the fuel filter,,use a  large wrench to hold the large  "screw in filter housing" and a  line wrench that fits the nut on the fuel line,, once the small line is broke loose the larger one will come loose, and has realy fine thread's a lot of people have turned the smaller nut on the line first and eventualy twist he line,, and with an open end wrench it will dammage the nut's edges and will have to be replaced or upgraded in the future.Mike

Should be a 1" wrench and a 5/8" line wrench.

That pipe actually is from the passenger side exhaust manifold.

So the throttle shaft is that little hole that is seeping fuel. I suppose I'll rebuild it with the kit I bought.

Yeah, the '75 Rochester 2GC has a hot air choke so that is the choke pipe from the manifold to choke. The later years had electric chokes. Otherwise the carbs are the same except your '75 carb has larger venturis than the later years which allows it to flow more air. You wouldn't know it because externally they are basically the same dimension-wise. The carb id numbers in '75 star with 704...; in '76 they are 17056... ;and in'77 they start with 17057.... on the float bowl housing......Dean. :D

I don't know if a rebuild kit will help the fuel seeping past the throttle shaft. If fuel is seeping out then air is being sucked in aswell. What happens is the shaft wears the carb. The only way I know to fix it is have a bushing installed or get a better carb to rebuild.
