1972 Vega GT rear springs question

Postby 7276vegagt » Fri May 31, 2024 1:33 am

Hello I got a question I'm building a 1972 V8 Vega Hatchback I put a 85 S10 rearend under it using the original Vega rearend brackets on it so it was a direct bolt in I went with a set of rear coil springs out of a 84-85 Chevy Camaro I put all new Vega shocks under it and now my rearend on it is really soft and bouncey its like my shocks are not even working my question is do I have the wrong style Camaro springs under it or do I have to get a stiffer set of shocks for it will Monza rear shocks be stiffer under it any help with this would l be great

Hi, I have a guess that your shocks have an air bubble type of situation. You might try removing them and pumping them up side down to re-prime them.

OK Thanks NVEGAR8D I will start there and see what happens they are brand-new rear shocks that I just put on the car a couple years ago when I put the Camaro springs under it and they haven't even seen the road yet I did the front as well but everything up there is working great just the back is bouncey like the springs are the only thing working

Kyb makes a nice shock that is newer and better than many.

I found out both my rear shocks were junk I put on them brand new back in 2012 and they haven't even seen the road yet and they are both shot so come to find it it wasn't my spring they were fine

Make sure your shocks are oriented right way up, as in the original cars orientation, most shocks work very poorly upside down, even on there side. The new shocks may have bolted right in, but they maybe upside down in with this cars mounting brackets. Just something to check. Harry

What model Camaro did you use. a V8 or V6 Camaro spring. Mine have been cut to lower it some but I need to raise it up to keep tire from rubbing.

boones I went with a set 84- 85 Camaro rear springs under my 72 Vega Gt but I had to use a thick rubber spacer being that rubber spacer that they put on from factory was wore out and breaking apart
