Door Weather strip replacement

Postby 77 Spyder » Wed Dec 13, 2006 10:55 pm

Has anyone tried to find an aftermarket replacement for the monza window weatherstips? I found there are some close options through JC whitney on the track seal. Not sure on any other ones.

What are your thoughts?

I haven't tried these, but sure would be interested in which ones you try. Mine have crumbled and fallen out.

Do they just have the door seals? My Doors seals are nice, But I do need the felt lined window seal that runs in the upper door frame that seal the glass.

Carl, I've been looking for these channel felts also and all used ones are cracked. I haven't been able to find any that fit.

I am tempted to try ordering a few of these from JC whitney & see if one fits. I can see from the diagrams they have above, that none are exactly the same.

Somewhere I have a book from Steel (sp?) rubber products, I believe they are a high end seal company.

I have them on my vega. I can't remember which one. I actually think it was #23. Mitre the top rear corner. They fit great and are good quality. My car hasn't seen the street, but I'm pleased with he fit/finish of these.

The original ones are all one piece, they are not cut in the corner.

The mitred corner is no big deal. You are paying $15 for these, remember. Mine has not pulled out after repeated window up and down. And given it is on the top, water intrusion should be a low risk.

I agree, mitiring the corner if need be should not be a problem.

I have had several email conversations with Dave at Restoration Specialties. I finally got him to the point where he wants to see some original glass sweeps to investigate making window sweep kits. Unfortunately, the only doors I have that could be used as donors, the rubber is completely gone.
Does anyone have a pair that has at least some rubber left willing to send them to Dave? You will probably never see them again.

Whitney sells window sweeps too, in custom fit for our cars. I have them, and yes, they fit like factory.
