I haven’t tried it but I did replace the ones on my 75 Vega and I’m not sure if the ones I bought were crap or the duck tail made the hatch lid too heavy, I can tell you the size It will require and that’s 13 inches compressed and cylinder only

Thanks Darth,
A good friend fixed all the rust (the car is nearly ready for paint) in the window/glass pocket on my 73' hatch. He took off the original hatch lift device with the idea to use the gas strut setup from my 1975 donor.
I used my trusty spot weld drill bit, reciprocating saw and went into the inner sanctum of the donor.
Looks to me that it might be a real task to make it all strong enough!!
