Installing a Buick 350

Postby 1976hawk » Mon Feb 20, 2023 1:03 pm

Will a Buick 350 bolt directly in a 1976 Skyhawk using the original frame brackets and mounts? I just purchased a 77 Monza V8 parts car complete, minus engine and I see that the frame brackets are different and appear to be farther forward than the Buick V6 brackets. I will have some parts up for sale once I get the mice out of the donor car and get it in my garage. I know that I won't be using a SBC, so I will be selling the exhaust manifolds and crossover pipe, along with multiple engine brackets. Thanks in advance.

Cant say for sure as I've never had one but on the FAQ i found:

9D.1 BOP V8 General notes
Roger (ks_skyhawk) writes: "I have done a similar swap using a 350 Buick V-8, I have talked to KcKen about the Olds swap. Also, I believe the Olds (all displacements) and the small block Buick have similar external dimensions. I think both are do-able. In my case, the V-8 bolted right on the the V-6 mounts. That's where the easy stuff ended. Had to use u-joints on the steering, and modify the brace between the passenger fenderwell and floorpan to clear the exhaust. The waterpump cleared the 4-core radiator by a whole 3/4" (radiator in the factory location). I know the 455 Buick is at least 2" longer. Don't know about the Olds. I wanted to have the AC, and PS, so anything beyond these limits weren't an option

I think if you want to save yourself a lot of time and trouble you would build a 305 like what came out of it except now you can easily get another 100 HP out of it without supercharging. Stick with the TH350 which it probably came with and make the whole thing simple. True duals with no cat. Maybe a 3.65 gear for quick starts, and you don't want to build for more than 130 mph at 6000.
