I'm trying to get this Vega's 140 motor's ignition timing set - I've got a mild performance cam in it, stock pistons, after market intake and carb . . .
I have an adjustable timing light, my thinking is, I can use it to see the total advance of the motor at around 3,000 rpm - it should all be in by then.
Is what I 'see' at 3,000 rpm with the car in neutral the same as when the motor is under 'load' on the street?
Will the ignition timing change when I'm on the street versus what I see with the motor in neutral revving it up?
I'm trying to keep away from the dreaded 'Ping' that'll kill the motor. I know if I limit the total advance to about 34 degrees I can avoid that.
Please help with any advice or expertise on this.
