Thanks, no mini tub for now. But we did leave some room for it when building the cage.

Wow, cant believe I missed this thread. Lots of great info.
Between you grandam75, megavega, and NixVegaGT, my vega build should be relatively easy. You all have great threads, and I cant wait for your next posts
Thanks

Mine had rust on both sides too, and 2 old repairs. I guess the vega is not the best engineered car when it comes to rust protection.

As mentioned earlier the LS1 and T56 have been trial fitted.

Transmission mods: I reshaped the tunnel a bit with a MAPP gas burner and a hammer.. It is very tight but the T56 fits! I am going to post some pictures of the mods when I get the engine out again. The trans had 3 ears sticking out that was in the way, removed them. The skip shift was removed and replaced with a M20 oil drain plug for a subaru. The reverse lockout will be modified to fit.
Made a new transmission crossmemer pictured below, unfortionaly ran out of gas for the MIG welder so it is not finished.

Engine mods:
Had som clearence issues with the mounting brackets for the brake line on the firewall, cut 2 of them off.
The steering clearence is the biggest problem. I have started to search for a rack and pinion, seems to be the best solution. I could probably make it work with the stock steering but I dont want to raise the engine that high.

Will use a appleton or woodward power rack. They are made in several widths and ratio versions and can be found cheap used. The ratios range from about 2-4 inches for each turn on the steering wheel. Most factory racks seem to be too slow and wide to use in a vega.
Appleton racks looks smaller (not sure if they are) and have a built in servo. Woodward usually have remote servo and the ratio can be changed pretty cheap and easy.

Wow, nice tranny crossmember! Kind of what I was looking to do on the Astre... I'll definitely have to lose the flimsy joke of a crossmember that comes with the TD mount before I install a 400.

Here are some pictures of the tunnel mods. It looks kind of rough and needs some cosmetic work before i am satisfied. It is very tight in there with the engine and trans in the car. No way I can take the trans out without the engine..
The good thing is that I belive I can still make a stock carpet fit.

The clutch master cylinder setup is finished. I moved the mounting point on the pedal up to get about 1" travel at the master. The lowest hole was used before, not sure what the upper hole is for. The master is from a -98-02 F body, trying to use as much stock parts as possible to keep costs down. It has a weird mounting angle so I made a bracket to mount it under the brake master cylinder. The bracket also has a mount for the proportioning valve. I made the rod adjustable and an adjustable stop for the brake pedal so I can set the maximum travel to about 7/8".
