Hi, all. I recently purchased a 1980 Monza coupe. It has the v-6 3.8 automatic. The car started and I was able to drive it to a storage center. When I started to pull it in the car died. There was no power whatsoever. No lights, horn, no clicking from the started. It just would not do anything. I had the battery tested and it was good. I was told it might be the ignition switch as this is a common problem. I order the part and now I have no idea as to how to install it, not to mention how to take out the old one. I was told it's located further down on the steering column under the dash and operated by a pushrod. Can anyone help with this? This is the part I ordered. See attachment.

2 bolts underneath hold the steering column up, take them out and the column drops to access the switch, easy -peasy....

I ordered the new part, got the old one and attempted to install the new one. There is some kind of push bar that works with the key, not sure where it goes in the new switch, but when I reconnected everything the key would not turn. Also there is a blue tab on the new switch. The old one had a slot where one would have gone. Not sure what it's for.

If the car is completely dead it could also be a blown fusible link coming off the starter wires. All power originates from the starter connection and the fusible link protects the wires before they get to the fusebox. I would check and see if you have any power at the fusebox and work from there.
